25 Years Strong: Bettendorf Rotary's Enduring Commitment to the John Deere Classic

The Bettendorf Rotary Club celebrated a remarkable milestone this year: 25 consecutive years of volunteering to marshal Hole 1 at the John Deere Classic, held from July 2-5, 2025. This enduring tradition saw more than 23 dedicated volunteers, including family members, contribute their time and energy.

A big thank you to this year’s volunteers: Greg Blaske, Paul Boffeli, Joe Campion, Derek Cockrell, Jake Eikenberry, Pat and Patt Engelhaupt, Marcia Erickson, Carol Foster, Bob Gallagher, Jeff Hassel, Monica Kruse, Lee Marbach, Penny McGimpsey, Chad Nichols, Sarah Potter, Tracy Rommel, Ryan Thompson, Ken Vandersnick, Jessica VanDyke, Oliva Warren, Josh Whitson, and Linda Wood.

Patt Engelhaupt encapsulated the shared sentiment: "We always enjoy seeing all the golfers up close. The atmosphere around the tournament is fun and electric! Being able to volunteer at the tournament makes us proud of all the Quad Cities has to offer." This pride in community is a cornerstone of the Rotary experience.

Monica Kruse, a five-year volunteer with her family, humorously recounted her "shusher" duties: "My kids said that I have been training for that role on them their entire lives!" These moments of camaraderie and lightheartedness make the volunteering experience even more special.
Lee Marbach's story highlights the club's flexibility and team spirit. When a pro-am group needed a caddy for their final nine holes, Lee stepped up! He praised the quick thinking of Hole 1 leader Greg and the rest of the team for making it possible.

Beyond the John Deere Classic, the Bettendorf Rotary Club's 120+ members are actively involved in numerous community-wide service projects and fundraisers throughout the year. Dollars raised go to support non-profit organizations, youth scholarships and others in need, right here in the Quad Cities.
